Adventures in Nature
I have been fortunate to have opportunities to photograph many unusual animals on a personal and intimate level. Some of these images are of captive animals in sanctuaries, zoos and educational facilities. Those images will be noted on their own pages. These places provide opportunities for artists to gather references that may not be possible to obtain without considerable time and expense spent in the field. As such, artists need to be aware of the body condition of captive animals and adjust to accurately portray the subject as it would appear in the wild. For instance, captive big cats are often very overweight. Male lions such as the one above, would look quite different in the wild.
